Overview
Rhodes University is a public research university located in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown), in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Established on 31 May 1904, it is the sixth oldest university in continuous operation in South Africa and the oldest in the Eastern Cape. The university is known for its academic excellence, high residential nature, and strong research output per academic staff member—ranked among the best in South Africa. It has approximately 7,000 students, including 20% international students from over 40 countries, contributing to a diverse and dynamic academic environment. Rhodes University comprises six faculties: Humanities, Science, Commerce, Law, Education, and Pharmacy, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
