The University of the Witwatersrand, commonly known as Wits University or Wits, is a leading public research university located in Johannesburg, South Africa. Established in 1922, it evolved from the South African School of Mines founded in Kimberley in 1896, making it the third oldest university in continuous operation in South Africa.
