SKA Observatory (SKAO) South Africa; a member of the global SKA Observatory operates SKA-Mid, the world’s most advanced mid-frequency radio telescope array, located in the radio-quiet Karoo region of the Northern Cape. Currently in its construction phase and having achieved its "first fringes" milestone in early 2026, the array will eventually comprise 197 dishes, including the integration of the existing 64-dish MeerKAT precursor telescope. It is managed locally by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO).
