BRICS Astronomy is a collaborative initiative among Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa aimed at advancing scientific research, technological development, and human capacity in astronomy. Established as one of five thematic science priority areas during the first BRICS Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting in Cape Town on 10 February 2014, astronomy was led by South Africa. The BRICS Astronomy Working Group (BAWG) was formally established in 2015 to promote cooperation across member nations.
