Overview
MDASat is a constellation consisting of three identical 2U CubeSat which will use Automatic Identification System (AIS) data to censor ship activities within South Africa’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This constellation facilitates improved maritime safety and the prevention of illegal activities such as unauthorized fishing or crude oil theft. The project significantly reduces reliance on foreign data providers by establishing an indigenous, cost-effective network for real-time ocean surveillance.
