SPAEL was established in the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in January 2005 and has been working in partnership with the Green Development Initiative (GDI), Port-Harcourt since 2010. SPAEL has two main units which are Geo informatics and Climate Change. The laboratory has been involved in the pursuit of scientific endeavour by engaging in various researches and consultancies which are geared towards sustainable growth and development in the areas of Remote Sensing, Geographic Information System, Climate Change, Environmental Protection etc.
