Makerere University, located in Kampala, Uganda, is the oldest and largest institution of higher learning in Uganda and one of the most prestigious universities in Africa. Established in 1922 as a technical school offering carpentry, building, and mechanics, it evolved into a university college affiliated with the University of London and gained full independence in 1970. The university is organized into 10 constituent colleges, including Health Sciences, Engineering, Business, Computing, Agriculture, and Humanities. It serves over 35,000 students, including undergraduates and postgraduates, and is recognized as a research-led institution with significant contributions to public health, climate change, and STEM fields.
