Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is a public university located in Nyeri, Kenya. It was chartered on 14 December 2012, becoming the first university in Kenya established under the Universities Act of 2012 and the eighth public university in the country. DeKUT evolved from the Kimathi Institute of Technology (KIT), founded in 1972, and later operated as Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), from 2007. The university's motto is "Better Life through Technology", reflecting its focus on technological education, research, innovation, and technology transfer.
