Haramaya University

Haramaya University (HU) is a public research university located in Haramaya, Oromia Region, Ethiopia, approximately 510 kilometers east of Addis Ababa. Established in 1954 as the Haramaya University College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, it was originally part of Addis Ababa University before becoming a full-fledged agricultural university in 1985. It transitioned into a multi-disciplinary institution in 1996 and was officially renamed Haramaya University in 2006. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs across diverse fields including agriculture, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, health sciences, engineering, law, and business. It is recognized as one of Ethiopia’s leading research universities, with a strong focus on agriculture, climate-smart practices, biodiversity, and sustainable development.
