Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), formerly known as the University of Ife, is a federal public university located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. Established in 1961 by the regional government of Western Nigeria led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola, it began academic activities in October 1962. The university is organized into 13 faculties and two colleges—Postgraduate College and College of Health Sciences—offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs across diverse disciplines. It hosts notable research institutes such as the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Institute of Cultural Studies, and the Institute of Public Health.
