The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT)

The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) is a public university located in Tarkwa, Western Region, Ghana. Established in 1952 as the Tarkwa Technical Institute, it evolved into the Tarkwa School of Mines in 1961 and became a faculty of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 1976. It attained full university status in November 2004 under Act 677 of the Ghanaian Parliament. UMaT specializes in mining, engineering, and technology-related disciplines. It offers 98 academic programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs. The university operates through five faculties and three schools: Faculty of Mining and Minerals Technology Faculty of Engineering Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Studies Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences Faculty of Integrated Management Science School of Petroleum Studies School of Railway and Infrastructure Development School of Postgraduate Studies.
