The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) is the oldest and leading public university in Zimbabwe, located in the Mount Pleasant suburb of Harare. Established in 1952 as the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, it was renamed the University of Zimbabwe following the country's independence in 1980 and currently operates under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Paul Mapfumo. The institution comprises eleven faculties offering a wide range of degree programmes in disciplines such as Agriculture, Arts, Business, Engineering, Law, Science, and Medicine. With a campus spanning 299 hectares (740 acres) and housing 171 buildings, UZ serves approximately 17,718 undergraduates and 2,681 postgraduates, accredited by the National Council for Higher Education.
