Overview

Angola's space sector is undergoing significant institutional expansion. President João Lourenço announced the creation of a national space agency in October 2025 as a successor to the Cabinet for the Management of the National Space Program (GGPEN). Angola operates ANGOSAT-2, a telecommunications satellite supporting the Conecta Angola initiative, which extends connectivity to remote areas across thirteen provinces. ANGEO-1, an Earth observation satellite built by Airbus, was initiated in 2026 and targets applications in environmental monitoring, agricultural planning, resource management, and disaster risk evaluation. Angola was ranked among Africa's top-five space programmes in 2026 assessments. The country hosted the ANGOTIC 2026 conference in Luanda, where continental space cooperation was a central agenda item. Space technology training was delivered to representatives from all twenty-one provinces as part of a national capacity-building programme.
